Overview
ShiftPulse is a lightweight operational alerting and shift-coordination system designed for high-turnover hospitality environments. Instead of forcing front-of-house or kitchen workers to install heavy enterprise scheduling apps, ShiftPulse uses zero-install channels (a structured Telegram bot and automated manager email summaries) to keep shift targets, prep checklists, and critical updates moving smoothly between management and staff.
The need
In busy restaurant environments, the gap between management intentions and shift execution is notoriously wide:
- Pre-shift briefings are easily forgotten as soon as the rush hits.
- Managers lack a clean, non-intrusive way to send mid-service announcements without yelling across a crowded room.
- Handover notes between shifts end up lost on crumpled paper or scattered across personal WhatsApp threads.
Product goals
- Zero friction: workers receive updates via channels they already use, with no mandatory app download.

Constraints & Pragmatic Decisions
- No proprietary app: Forcing hourly workers to install custom apps leads to low compliance. Telegram was chosen for its zero friction, reliable push notifications, and robust bot API.
- Resilient offline-first design: Kitchens and basements often have spotty Wi-Fi; scheduled jobs run server-side and dispatch reliably even if recipients temporarily lose signal.
- Non-punitive workflow: The system is an operational helper, not an employee surveillance tracker.
