From a generic checklist to an active travel workbench: designing Trip Readiness (Bersaglio × Voymora)

The problem with government checklists

Before booking a flight or heading to the airport, Israeli travellers face a fragmented maze of official checks: Does the destination country require 3 or 6 months of passport validity? Is there an accidental exit stay order (tsav ikuv yetzia)? Are routine vaccines up to date at a travel health clinic? Is an International Driving Permit needed for that car rental?

When we first built the Trip Readiness Planner, the regulatory logic was thorough. It gathered rules from eight different Israeli government bodies and international agencies. But visually and ergonomically, it felt like an outdated government form: a narrow vertical card with native checkboxes, standard dropdowns, and a results section that appeared only after hitting submit.

It was functional, but boring and transactional. It lacked the confidence, craft, and tactile satisfaction of an authentic Bersaglio tool.

Learning from the 61 Coalition Calculator

To redesign the tool, we looked at our most engaging public utility: the 61 Coalition Calculator. Coalition succeeded because it feels like an active editorial workbench—dynamic, responsive, and tactile.

We applied the same workbench principles to Trip Readiness:

1. A wide 76rem editorial canvas: We retired the narrow container in favor of a generous, balanced layout. The page opens with an authoritative display serif headline (clamp(3.25rem, 8vw, 6.25rem)), a monospace collaboration kicker (Voymora × Bersaglio / Trip readiness), and an editorial coral registration rule for the official disclaimer.
2. Tactile stage switcher (01 / Planning stage): Instead of a hidden select dropdown, visitors choose their stage using prominent tactile cards (01 / Exploring options, 02 / Before booking, 03 / Already booked). The selected stage locks in with a hard coral offset shadow (.22rem .22rem 0 ...).
3. Circumstance toggle cards (03 / Specific circumstances): Travel conditions—such as travelling with minors, dual citizenship, new immigrant travel documents, military clearance, or chronic medications—are presented as tactile button cards. Clicking a card elevates it and paints it in Bersaglio’s deep plum tone, mirroring Coalition’s party selector buttons.
4. The sticky readiness console: Anchored to the right side during scroll, the console features a hard gold-tinted shadow (.55rem .55rem 0 ...), an animated task counter (interpolate), a live coral readiness meter bar, and an active circumstances tray that displays selected factors as removable pill tags with × badges.
5. An exhibition-grade results checklist: When the plan is generated, tasks are structured chronologically across four timeline phases (Before booking, 6 weeks before, Before departure, During the trip). Each card features an urgent coral badge when applicable, a direct link to the authoritative Israeli ministry with an external arrow mark (↗), and an interactive checkoff that dynamically advances the readiness meter in real time.

Bersaglio × Voymora: Companion architecture

Voymora is our private workspace for organizing trips without algorithms or tracking. But before a traveller starts building an itinerary, booking train tickets, or pinning spots in Voymora, they need to know their trip is viable and compliant.

Branding the tool explicitly as Bersaglio × Voymora establishes natural provenance within our ecosystem. It is a free, open decision companion: you verify your regulatory readiness first, and once cleared, seamlessly move into Voymora to craft your travel experience.

Privacy and AI Discoverability (GEO)

Utility tools built for Israeli travellers handle sensitive contexts (military service, dual nationality, medical prescriptions). Our architecture reflects that responsibility:

• 100% Client-Side Computation: No passport numbers, destinations, travel dates, or medical indications are transmitted or stored on any server.
• Authoritative EEAT Signals: The tool links directly to primary sources: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Security Council, Population and Immigration Authority, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transport, National Insurance Institute, and Enforcement Authority.
• Structured Data & AI Search (GEO): We implemented a dual @graph schema combining WebApplication and FAQPage schemas in Hebrew and English. The structured FAQs directly answer the five most common pre-flight queries on Google.co.il and AI engines like Perplexity, ChatGPT Search, and Claude.

When public tools are crafted with editorial care, essential bureaucracy transforms into calm, actionable confidence.
